The 1st XI came out of the blocks in stunning fashion and were excellent value for a swift 3 - 0 lead. On 2 minutes a pinpoint cross from Luke Creates was well converted by Dan Hyslop. Then, on 10 minutes a neatly worked Corner between Marc Hawley and Dean Riordan was headed firmly back across the OP's area by Nick Raggett and headed home by Ollie Hicks. On the half hour mark. Matt Storey converted the Ruts 3rd goal and inbetween the 2nd/3rd Goals, Nick Raggett was unlucky not to score as his header came back off the OP's Bar. At this point the Ruts were comfortably on top......... However!, a crazy 5 minute spell saw the home side level the scoreline to ensure the game was 'back-on.
The second period was less eventful, although it was the OP's who took charge by adding 2 further goals to compound the Ruts to a defeat they can only blame themselves for!!! Blowing a comfortable 3 goal lead is simply inexcusable, incredibly poor and stupid. Storey earned the Ruts MOTM award this week.
Last Season's Young player of the year and 1st XI top Scorer KM Swain marked his first outing of the Season following injury with a goal for the 2nd XI as they drew 1 - 1 with Croydon Greenside. Whilst the 3rd XI were comprehensively beaten 7 - 1 in a friendly at Real Holmesdale with 50 year old Chris Kavanagh notching the OR's scant consolation. Also in this match Nigel Watford travelled up from his Somerset Home to make his 499th Ruts appearance (his first in 4 years) and tomorrow he is scheduled to make his 500th Appearance when he is expected to play for the OR's Vets. Good luck and Well Done if you do it!.
On Sunday the Vets Won 1 - 0 at Molesey Vets thanks to an Ed Reynolds goal and Nigel Watford returned to Somerset post match following his phenomenal achievement of becoming only the second Ruts player to join the 500 Club!!! Well done Waffle.
