Ruts welcomed last years Surrey Cup Semi Finalists Raynes Park Vale to Poplar Road for todays game. The Ruts had a near full squad to choose from and began the game in confident fashion.
Both teams played their part in an entertaining opening 45 without creating too many openings.
The second half saw The Ruts introduce Simon Young as the centre forward and this quickly paid dividends. The in-form striker got free of the Vale defnce and finished expertly to give The Ruts the lead. Roland Heal in The Ruts goal had little to do and was protected well by the assured Phil Rea, Kev Butcher, Iain Higgins and Paul Walker.
The Ruts saw the game out with some good possesion football in the middle of the park from Steve Muir and Jeremy Capper.
A good 1-0 victory for The Ruts.

cheers for report dan but raynes park vale were beaten finalists in last seasons surrey cup to manor ath who themselves were national vets cup winners the season before so for old ruts to beat r.p.vale with some of the best football we have played in years was quite an achievement today and more importantly was very good hard but fair game to be part off and watch with both teams thoroughly enjoying it in good sporting fashion, well done to everyone today .
