This morning proved how invaluable a big quality squad of players we have, already missing Rea,Young,Gillman, walker, muir,Raife,Ryder,Martin, and keeper Heal we still managed to have 14 players which was a big reason we won the game, lawrence ennis playing his first vets match for ruts alongside higgy in defense up against a few ex walton hersham teammates for cobham soon settled into their stride after a shaky start in which with their first threat at our goal scored when a well struck 25yder flew over capper in goal into top corner,we gradually took control with woods and whiter in midfield and the pace and trickery of griff akai who i hear you ask hes chessington kc 1st team striker another plucked out for today from contact book, akai sent over a couple of quality crosses first blomers missed header from close range then cookie also, but from good move down the right the ball was played into cobham area to cook who swivelled to hook the ball into top corner to equalise, shortly after knotty had a good long range effort which missed narrowly before another good cross was buried by reynolds fine header giving ruts h/t 2-1 lead, the second half we rotated a few tired legs with caffell, lyle, minnihane coming on and in truth we dominated the second half as cobham had only bare eleven their legs began to tire, the pitch was very bobbly and made control of the ball more dificult than should of been how lucky we are to have excellent flat pitch at poplar road, but matt (blomers) blomeley struck excellent left footed strike to smash against the inside of cobham goal post from 20yds,then shortly after minnihane broke through twice but unfortunately could not finish them off, next blomers again broke through and as keeper raced out was about to be lobbed before keeper handled the ball well outside the area and should off been sent off but reynolds and caffell pleaded with ref not to bother and let him continue although we did suggest he should have his hands tied behind his back for duration of match, this gentlemanly act of kindness towards cobham keeper maybe helped us very late on when with a few minutes left cobham forward broke though into our area only for whiter to trip him from behind and wave play on,final whistle blew shortly after for deserved 2-1 win.well done everyone again today and managers man of match went to john woods for tireless non stop running in midfield.
