Sunday saw the vets entertain roehampton at poplar rd a team we havn"t played against recently but who always gave us a good game in the past, the visitors started brightly and the first twenty minutes they had the majority of the play, and winning all the tackles they seemed more up for the battle than us,gradually ruts gained momentum espiecially after ed reynolds was switched from right side to the center of midfield after cappers will to play carrying calf injury backfired leading to him being replaced by minnihane, reynolds battling aggressive play lifted the team and we broke on right for minnihane to attempt a cross which struck an arm and ref gave us a penalty, but was rescinded when after consulting linesman caffell he admitted he wasnt sure it was deliberate and was more concerned about his own calf injury preventing him from keeping up with play so two weeks running our honesty paid off eventually when later we were awarded another pen after blatant foul which knotty buried, this actually made the score 2-0 as we had scored a little earlier from possibly the worst free kick i can remember in ages knotty touching the ball to blommers who screwed his shot so wide it by-passed the wall and fell straight to simon young unmarked and surprised but he converted it to give us the lead, their heads slightly deflated we again broke through and they couldnt cope with the pace of young and minihane for young to round the keeper to score into empty net, 3-0 h/t and to be honest slightly flattering. Again our strenghth of squad paid dividends as roehampton only had eleven fit players left after their player manager went off with nasty sprained ankle, the son of a player came on and scored to reduce the scoreline, but further goals from blomeley and minnihane either side of roehampton goal gave us a final score of 5-2 the first time this season winning two games on the trot, H, monk made his vets debut during second half showing some nice touches and passing after long lay off from playing regurlary.this week were away at HSBC in beckenham whose pitch is even better than ours so hoping to have another good encounter with them as previous 2 games both ending 1-1 although our strenghth of squad is vital now as we have so many injuries mostly calf muscles injuries inc four having physio to get fit so watch this space or your phone as might get unexpected call up lol.
