vets travelled to bank of england (roehampton) to play our opponents for first time, with Rea & Martin two very influentual players in our team dropping out at the last minute sat evening we only had eleven players so many calls/texts later paul maugh-maugh last seasons midfield general agreed to play and oneill burns and bezza also to give us a healthy squad of14, in the warm up on main pitch which in all honesty was a bit dissapointing as looked like it cut up from yesterdays game it was decided by opponents to switch to another pitch which although slightly smaller was in better condition, from the start we played the ball around well keeping good possession of the ball and took an early lead through darren knott, bank of england started to get into the game with some good football and having a pacy forward created the odd chance too although roland not troubled to much in goal, monk ,maugh-maugh,muir battled well for control of the middle of the park with good crisp fast passes and we broke clear on the right for minnihane to use his pace and score with a fine finish in bottom corner, bank of england looked a little shell shocked now and after winning a corner we scored a third goal from close range by steve muir who bundled the ball home from close range, the ruts defence of reynolds, caffell, higgy & butcher kept their forwards in check with good hard tackling and interceptions although at times we were a bit disorganised as their were no linesmen on refs request i presume the back line was a bit stretched at times not knowing to play offside or not and after a good move by opponents their forward broke into our box only to be up ended by ed reynolds for a penalty which they scored from,h/t 3-1 second half we made sure all players had a good run out so maugh-maugh ,minnihane, butcher took a rest and to be fair we were under the cosh at times as bank of england took control and should really have scored a second when forward went clear only for roland to block first shot but rebounded to forward who rounded roly only to miss the target from probably 8 yds from not too diffulcult an angle so let off there,we rotated again bringing back maugh maugh, blomely and minnihane and some fresher legs told as we once again took a grip of the game first bezza hit their crossbar from 20 yd strike then simon young back after a month out with injury should of scored eventually our pressure told after knotty all fired up after a late high tackle on his inner thigh jinked his way into their box to create a opening to score with fine low shot leaving their keeper flatfooted, full time 4-1 win so a good string of results to end the year and we used 33 different players so far already but good news that cookie, raife, whiter, should be fit for next game 8th jan.thanks to bank of england for good sporting game in superb facilities and look forward to another game their 29th april 2012,just like to wish all old ruts players and staff a very merry xmas and hopefully better enjoyable new year, oggy
