vets travelled to tolworth crt (formerly kingston university) grd to take on arguably the best footballing vets team in kingswood today, missing quite a few players from last week we lined up heal, caffell, whiter, higgins ,butcher in defense, reynolds muir, wood, blunden in midfield with young and blomeley up front with minnihane & cook on bench, right from the start kingswood moved the ball around with ease passing and moving and totally outplayed us in truth with us chasing shadows, and after a break on the right the winger crossed hard and low across the face of the goal for forward to just edge in front of whiter to score, kingswood assisted by brisk wind continued to play excellent football and only a couple of excellent saves from heal in goal and dogged defending kept the score to 1-0 we did have a few chances too but not able to take them h/t 1-0, half time we decided after discussion to let them play out from the back and press them when near half way line to stop them playing the little triangles around us and after 5 mins or so we equalised when the ball was laid across to muir whose fine first time shot flew into the net 1-1. now better organised we began to play our football and created more chances eventually resulting in blomeley breaking through with wood in support but blommers slotted the ball into bottom of net for 2-1 lead, both teams were playing some great football now on excellent pitch and kingswood broke again for whiter to slide in on forward and bring him down near touchline ref awarding a penalty before changing his mind after forward sportingly said it wasnt in truth i thought it was, our younger legs up front began to pay now as we broke time after time and minnihane scored but was ruled offside belatedly probably to compensate for penalty decision then game flowed end to end but we hung on for excellent if not somewhat fortunate win after first half roasting 2-1. In which is allways the highlight of my season playing against them and both teams came off the pitch thoroughly enjoying playing in such good matches between us.
