Today we welcomed worcester park fc vets to poplar rd in another of our favourite fixtures, the match was played at a much quicker pace but with still plenty of quality football and w,park with ex ruts 1st teamer ryan brown in midfield took an early grip of the game, tackles & ariel challenges were strong but fair and it felt like i was back in my twenties ( not 1920s) at times apart from the legs hardly move nowadays, first chance went to s.young who shot narrowly wide of post then w.park came forward and scored when forward in box was left unmarked, steve muir & john wood began to dominate center of midfield now ably assisted by wide midfielders reynolds and monk with blomeley producing some great crosses to fellow striker young we equalised when w.park couldnt clear their area and young scored with low strike, the quality balls into area continued and monk trying an outragous bicycle kick for a vet anyway couldnt quite connect 100% which if he had would of been one of the best goals ever scored at poplar rd,finally our hard work paid off when young scored again and shortly after we scored a third from a corner when whiters great determination to be first to ball headed home at near post, the defence of caffell, higgins, whiter & blunden had kept worc park forwards quiet for long periods of half but it took a great save from roly in goal from distance to keep the lead 3-1 at h/t. 2nd half we introduced raife, gillman and minnihane to replace monk, caffell, and blomeley and made some other positional changes to accomodate them and worc park began to dominate early exchanges whilst we settled back into our game but we struck again through monk from scramble in their area and that knocked the stuffing out of them now, we were breaking forward at ease now and further strikes from great play starting in our half and switching play across whole of pitch to pinpoint cross for minnihane to head home and young completing his hatrick made he game safe although w.park scored a consolation goal late on through some sloppy defending but will excuse them as the whole team were excellent today with great determined team work all helping each other out in what was our best team performance of season against a very good team who are playing in quarter final of surrey cup next week well done to everyone today top performance lads also thanks to jimmy bolton for refereeing. full time 6-2
